(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A 31-year-old Chicago man has been charged in three armed robberies after police put out an alert about a gunman holding up several sandwich shops earlier this summer.

Nicholas Wardford faces three counts of armed robbery and was expected to appear in court Tuesday, police said.

He allegedly committed armed robberies on June 25 and July 15 in the 1200 block of South Canal and on July 18 in the 600 block of South Wabash.

These dates and locations were included in a roundup of sandwich-shop robberies that police reported last month in the downtown, the North, West and Near Northwest sides and Pilsen and Chinatown.

One suspect was believed to have committed all of the armed robberies, police previously said.

No further information was available.
