(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – As Chicago’s mayoral race enters its final month, political experts are sounding some cautionary notes about all the opinion polls voters are likely to see.

Lori Lightfoot’s internal campaign polling shows her leading the crowded field, while independent polls and those taken for other candidates show different results.

University of Chicago Political Science Prof. Mark Hansen points out even well-conducted polls can have differences because of so-called sampling errors. And some polls are taken for specific purposes, he said.

He said voters may want to try to aggregate the poll results to look for an overall message.

And when candidates release polls, Hansen notes they may be withholding information they don’t want released.
