(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A Naperville man has been convicted of raping a woman while he was driving her in a taxicab nearly five years ago.

A judge found Sandeep Arora, 48, guilty of several counts of sexual assault and sexual abuse, following a six-day bench trial, DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin announced Tuesday.

Authorities said Arora picked up a female passenger and a friend in July 2017 from a Naperville establishment. After dropping off the friend, Arora drove away and sexually assaulted the woman twice, prosecutors said.

The victim reportedly was able to free herself and ran away, officials said. She went to Naperville police the next morning to report the assault, and the investigation led authorities to Arora.

He will be sentenced on June 15 and faces a penalty of between 12 to 60 years in prison.
