CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Contract negotiations were said to resume Wednesday between a charter school organization and its striking teachers.

This was the second day of the strike by around 40 teachers for Instituto del Progreso Latino, which operates two charter schools. At a news conference outside one of the schools on 25th and Western, teachers said there’s been no sense of urgency by management over the last two years to get a contract done.

Jen Conant, the director of the Chicago Teachers Union charter school division said there’s only one special education teacher for both schools.

"One of the main concerns is that these schools are understaffed and we need to correct that. Students need the services that they deserve."

Teacher Gabriela Solis also that staffing is a major issue. "We’re just looking for justice, for equity," she added. "We just want to be able to teach our students with the resources they deserve.

Instituto’s chief operating officer Carlos Jaramillo said in a statement to NBC 5 that he’s deeply disappointed with his teachers’ decision to strike and said the organization and union have reached agreement on seven issues.
