CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Chicago Teachers Union is calling for the firing of one of the Chicago Public Schools’ top administrators.
The teachers union contends that Stephanie Jones fails to protect the most vulnerable students in the Chicago Public Schools, continues to violate special education laws and creates of a toxic workplace.
Jones is Chief of the Office of Diverse Learner Supports and Services. The union’s House of Delegates took a no-confidence vote on Jones Wednesday night and have called on CPS CEO Pedro Martinez to fire her.
“Tonight our members said, enough. Enough with the lack of services and support, enough with ignoring the needs of our students, and enough with violating state law," said CTU president Stacy Davis Gates.
Special education teachers allege Jones has mishandled the special education department and has been deficient in training staff in restraint practices.
WBBM has requested a comment from CPS.
