CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A teen in Cook County is among the 105 people reported on Monday to have died from COVID-19, according to state health officials.

The Illinois Department of Public Health didn't provide any other details about the teen such as gender or exact age. The teen and a man in his 40s are among the 16 people from Cook County who've recently died from the disease.


In addition to the 105 deaths, the IDPH also reported 4,453 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19.

Since the pandemic's start, the IDPH reported a total of 942,362 cases, including 16,074 deaths.

Over the past 24 hours, 51,046 tests were performed for a total 13,036,658. As of Sunday night, 4,243 people were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 884 patients were in the intensive care unit and 515 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.

The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from Dec. 21 through Dec. 27 is 7.2%. The preliminary seven-day statewide test positivity from Dec. 21 through Dec. 27 is 8.7%.

Earlier this month, the FDA approved COVID-19 vaccines manufactured by Pfizer and Moderna, both of which were shipped out across the country.

As of last Tuesday, 191,000 doses of a coronavirus vaccine have been administered in Illinois, according to Gov. J.B. Pritzker. Nearly 2 million people nationwide have received a coronavirus vaccination.
