(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- More and more people are trying to live environmentally friendly lives, so after a busy election season, what should you do with leftover campaign signs?

Before you think about putting them in the recycling bin, think again. Most can't be recycled, but according to Block Club Chicago, city crews are picking them up from public areas and recycling them when possible.

Another option? Take them to Wilmette, which launched a campaign sign recycling initiative in 2021. It's open to anyone.

And for those who are crafty, the website recyclebycity.com suggests turning the signs into storage boxes or DIY yard signs for birthdays and other special occasions.

The website even includes tutorials.
