(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Some of this weekend's events emphasize the wonders of beer, while another provides an unusual venue for an American literary classic.

WBBM Newsradio's Rachel Pierson has a roundup:

—Enjoy a brew at the zoo. Craft Brews at Lincoln Park Zoo offers a one-of-a-kind after-hours experience for adults. Savor a selection of more than 100 craft beers at the sixth annual event.

—For a different assortment of ales, head to the Northwest Brewfest in Irving Park. Fourteen brewers come together for your tasting enjoyment at Sway Dance Chicago.

—The Joffrey Ballet ditches the tutus and tights for overalls during its world premiere adaptation of John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men this weekend.

—Looking for a perfect gift for mom ahead of Mother's Day? Check out the Ravenswood Mother's Day Market at Ainslie Arts Plaza, featuring dozens of local vendors.

—Head out to north suburban Vernon Hills for a Family Kite Fly Saturday afternoon. Hosted at Century Park, the free event supports the Illinois Association of Park Districts Flying For Kids program. Bring your own kite or purchase one at the event for $10.

—And it's a day for strays in the western suburbs. The 29th annual Makin' Strides for Strays Walk-a-thon steps off at Naperville Central High School Sunday morning. Proceeds from the 2.5 mile walk benefit A.D.O.P.T. Pet Shelter.
