BENSENVILLE, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Threats made against Fenton High School and a school official prompted the district to cancel school Friday and the village president of Bensenville is now demanding that the superintendent resign.

School district officials previously announced that there would be e-learning classes following the threats. However, that decision changed to cancelling school, according to a statement from officials.

Officials also said that they have "successfully evacuated all students and staff from the building. Everyone is safe."

The threat comes the same week after a school staff member was fired after inappropriate conduct accusations. The school has not confirmed if the incidents are connected, according to CBS 2.

There’s also an uproar about allegations that school officials, including Superintendent James Ongtengco, looked the other way as the recently fired teacher sexually abused students for years.

He’s under investigation, but has not been criminally charged. Parents and students packed a board meeting this week.

Bensenville Village President Frank DeSimone said he not only wanted the superintendent to step down, but wrote “I am also calling for the school board to investigate and remove anyone who knew of these allegations and chose to do nothing.”

DeSimone has a daughter who attends the school.

"What I have witnessed at Fenton these past few weeks is nothing short of horrific, and like so many in our community, I’m outraged at the allegations against a former teacher and while his dismissal is a small step forward, it is not enough," he wrote.
