CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Chicago’s community-led public safety commission has sent its three top picks for police superintendent to the mayor.

The three finalists are Chicago Police Department Chief Larry Snelling, CPD Chief Angel Novalez and Shon Barnes, the chief of police in Madison, Wisconsin.

Anthony Driver is the president of the Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability. He spoke with CBS-2.

“I’ve said all along that we will lead the most transparent, engaged search for a public official that this city has ever seen. I stand by that,” Driver said.

The mayor’s permanent superintendent will take over the job from David Brown. A new police chief comes as the city is still reeling from 2020 civil unrest and crime spikes, even as shooting and homicide totals have fallen.
