(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The head of a City Council committee says the confirmation hearing for Chicago's next police superintendent will likely take place in about a week and a half.

Larry Snelling, Mayor Johnson's choice to run the Chicago Police Department, had been scheduled for a Police and Fire Committee hearing last Friday, but the meeting was cancelled.

Ald. Chris Taliaferro, chair of the panel, attributed the delay from the community engagement provisions of the new Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability.

There was a community meeting last week, and the 29th Ward alderman says rescheduling is underway.

Taliaferro anticipates seeing Snelling before his committee next week or soon after. He plans to consult with Mayor Johnson.

There were reports that questions about the counter-terrorism chief's record as a patrol officer might be behind the delay. Taliaferro -- himself a former cop -- says that was not a concern.
