(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Two horses were killed Friday morning when they got loose from a boarding facility and were hit by vehicles on a road near Woodstock.

Captain Matt Hedges of the Woodstock Fire Rescue District said his department got a call about an accident on Route 120 near Thompson Road.

Hedges says one horse was hit by a pickup truck, while the other horse was struck by a van.

Drivers told authorities the horses suddenly darted in front of them and there was no time to stop.

No one in the vehicles was injured.

Investigators say they aren't sure how the horses got loose from the boarding facility.
