CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — In June, the University of Illinois announced all returning students would need to be vaccinated against COVID-19 to attend classes this fall.

On Wednesday, administrators said all employees will need to receive vaccines, as well.

The directive covers U of I campuses in Chicago, Champaign-Urbana and Springfield.

President Timothy Killeen said all faculty and staff must be vaccinated by the start of the fall semester.

Exemption protocols will be in place for people who, for a variety of reasons, cannot get the shot.
