NEW LENOX, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Police in southwest suburban New Lenox said an Uber driver was carjacked Tuesday morning by suspects who arrived on the scene in a stolen car.

New Lenox Police said an Uber driver was parked and waiting to pick up a customer when a white Hyundai Accent pulled up and two males - wearing masks and armed with handguns - got out and demanded that the Uber driver surrender his car.

Police said the Uber drive was hit in the head with a gun - and his wallet and cell phone were stolen.

The carjackers took the Uber driver's car, but police said the carjackers "had difficulty operating it" and abandoned the car a few houses down - then hopped in the white Hyundai they'd arrived in and took off.

That white Hyundai turned out to have been stolen in Chicago on Monday, according to police.

Illinois State Police were were involved in a pursuit of the stolen Hyundai in the Lawndale neighborhood in Chicago Tuesday night.

Police said three juveniles, a male and two females and an 18- year-old adult male, ran from the vehicle. They were apprehended and taken into custody. The stolen Hyundai was recovered and is being processed for evidence by police.

No charges have been filed in regards to the carjacking in New Lenox at this time.
