CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Chicago is becoming a hub for brain research.

The University of Illinois Chicago is leading the program with its platform it created for researchers.

In collaboration with other Chicago academic medical centers, they will establish a virtual brain bank which will standardize brain tissue collection and include things like 3D images, electrical measurements of brain activity, clinical records on patients’ history and symptoms and data on genetics and other cellular factors.

The project's first phase focuses on temporal lobe epilepsy, with plans to expand to brain tumor studies and scale the virtual brain bank beyond Chicago in the second phase.
