Unusual polling place: Daisy’s Hair Studio

Polling place

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- While voting at the United Center is something new, there are other polling places that you could say are unusual where the doors have been opened to voters for years.

Daisy’s Hair Studio on Archer Avenue in the Brighton Park neighborhood is among the more unusual polling places. There are no haircuts being done on Tuesday, as it is serving as a polling place.

Sasha Reyes was one of very few people who showed up to vote around 9 a.m. Tuesday morning.

WBBM: Unusual place to cast your vote, isn't it?

"Yes, I have been coming here, because I live super close by, like a block away," Reyes said. "It's really nice that they have been able to open their doors for the election."

WBBM: Are you surprised how slow it is?

"Yes, I am," Reyes said. "I mean, I was actually mentioning that when I went inside. Last night there were a lot of people at Kelly High School, so many everyone went to vote last night. I am not sure, but hopefully we will see more people. I was surprised actually."

WBBM: How important is this election to you?

"It's really important," Reyes said. "I think because of the coronavirus cases going up, it really motivated me."

WBBM: Do you have any fears about what might happen after tonight?

"I am worried about the riots, and I think the city is as well. They are boarding up everywhere. It's good to be ready, but at the same time I feel like it's kind of like a self-fulfilling prophecy."

The polling place at Daisy’s is just a few doors down from a barbershop called Presidential Cuts.
