SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Sunday of the first weekend of the Illinois State Fair is the day to honor veterans, with free admission, a parade, and a program.

“America without her soldiers is like God without His angels,” said Jeremiah Williams, a keynote speaker quoting a patriotic phrase.

“I have long believed that sacrifice is the pinnacle of patriotism.

Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton also acknowledged the value of veterans.

“Our administration knows how much passion, talent, and expertise veterans bring to work in Illinois,” she said. “

And I’ve seen it firsthand from hearing the insight of our leaders at military bases throughout the state to listening to and learning from veterans and advocates about the needs that must be addressed for service people to thrive.”
