Virtually visit some of the city's best buildings during Open House Chicago 2020

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Like many other things this year, the COVID-19 pandemic has forced some changes to Open House Chicago.

Usually, every year architecture enthusiasts get a up close, in-person look at some of the city’s most treasured buildings during Open House Chicago, but this year you'll have to use your imagination a bit as the event has gone virtual.

Using a mobile app, launched by the Chicago Architecture Center, people can explore and virtually visit some of Chicago's most historic buildings. Hey, think of it this way - you don't have to walk miles and miles in the cold autumn air, you can see and learn everything from the comfort of your home.

One of the highlights included in Open House Chicago 2020 is the “Architectural Innovation Trail: Hyde Park” - a 1.5-mile trail that will take people through six historic buildings, each offering a lesson from experts on how the structure came to be.

Also new this year, to celebrate the event's 10th anniversary, Open House Chicago 2020 will last 10 days, instead of just a weekend.

The app can be downloaded at openhousechicago.org/app. It also offers virtual tours inside some of the city’s most coveted buildings.
