CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Firefighters from surrounding suburbs joined Chicago firefighters Thursday in paying their last respects to one of their own.
The visitation for Firefighter EMT Jermaine Pelt was held at the Blake Lamb funeral home in Oak Lawn where first responder vehicles filled the parking lot along with the parking lot of a bowling alley across the street.
A CFD ladder truck was fully extended draping a large American flag over 103rd.
The honor guard stood at Pelt’s casket throughout the visitation. Firefighter Local 2 spokesperson Pat Kwon told us that Pelt’s casket will have a special ride to the final services, which will be held at the House of Hope on Friday.
“He was assigned to Engine 75. His casket will be carried on the rig to the services at the House of Hope,” Kwon said.
Kwon noted Pelt will receive final honors, including the tradition of ringing the bell.
“Three-three-five is a signal that we use in the Morse Code for company to return to quarters. We will ring the bell three-three-five tomorrow (Friday) for brother Pelt as he returns to quarters,” added Kwon.
