(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A Portland, Oregon doughnut maker known for its decadent and outlandish bakery items has announced plans to open a store in Chicago’s Fulton Market district.
Voodoo Doughnut will open at 945 W. Randolph Street, the company said Wednesday. A date was not announced.
It will be the 21st outlet for Voodoo Doughnut, which originated in Portland in the early-2000s and now operates in eight states. The hipster-ish bakery chain is known for its cleverly named doughnuts, half of which are offered in vegan versions.

Among the offerings are: the “Dirt” doughnut, a traditional raised ring topped with vanilla frosting and crumbled chocolate cookies; the “Oh Captain, My Captain,” which is topped with Cap’n Crunch cereal; and the “Mango Tango,” a raised shell filled with mango jelly and topped with vanilla frosting and the powdered drink Tang. One type of doughnut is a nod to the devil, while another is modeled on certain anatomy.
"We're incredibly excited to become a part of Fulton Market's vibrant culinary landscape," Chris Schultz, Voodoo Doughnut CEO, said in a news release.
"Chicago's rich food culture and diverse community make it an ideal location for our unique doughnut experience.”
