CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — With approval of a vaccine expected soon, some Chicago area labor groups are saying their members are essential workers who deserve a place near the front of the line.

These groups feel that if they don't make some noise their members will be forgotten, WBBM Newsradio's Steve Miller reports.

The people they represent include thousands of warehouse workers, whom they say are essential.

"We believe the essential workers should be right behind the health care workers and the elderly in the vaccination process, together with the teachers and the front-line people who are interacting with the public," Tim Bell of the Chicago Workers' Collaborative said Tuesday.

Bell says warehouse and factory workers have accounted for a high percentage of infections.

This group feels they've been left in the dust when it comes to testing and in getting personal protective equipment. They want to make sure they're in the queue for the vaccine.
