CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Chicago’s good weather fortune continues today.

For a sixth consecutive day, the area will be blessed with unseasonable warmth. In fact, today’s high temperature at O'Hare, the official recording station, will approach an 82-year-old record.

AccuWeather says we could reach or surpass 82 degrees when it is all said and done today, a temperature Chicago has not seen on April 12 since 1941. The average high this time of year is only 53 degrees.

The warm, dry and breezy conditions have  triggered an elevated fire risk, the National Weather Service says. Grass and brush could be easily ignitable. The NWS warns to use extreme caution when disposing of smoking materials and says to maybe postpone outdoor burning.

The bountiful sunshine and pleasant temps will last through the middle of the weekend. Tomorrow, we’ll be in the high 70s, but at the Lakefront it will be cooler. Saturday will start nice but take a wicked turn when showers and thunderstorms develop late in the afternoon and temperatures begin to crash.

Sunday, AccuWeather says, will be a true reality check. It will be sharply colder. Temps will continue falling, landing ultimately into the 40s, and there could be a rain/snow shower mix by nighttime.
