(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The people in charge of the Illinois agency that protects state government from cyberattacks say the challenges are so great, they need two things: more time and money.
Adam Ford, Chief Information Security Officer at the Illinois Department of Innovation and Technology, told members of a House committee that state government faces constant attacks from hackers.
“We are attacked millions of times per day,” Ford said. “We do receive millions of ‘phishing’ emails per day. So, making sure we have a quick response and can contain those responses rapidly is key.”
Ford said the process of improving online security is so massive it will take a long time and a lot of money to fix them.
He didn't have an exact dollar amount, so the chairman of the House Cyber Security Committee asked Ford’s department to come up with that figure in 30 days.
