CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — An entrepreneur from Chicago hopes wearable technology can help people with dementia and their caregivers.
Adam Sobol is the founder and CEO of CareBand, which makes wearable devices to help caregivers and relatives keep track of a loved one who has dementia.
Sobol told the WBBM Noon Business Hour the device tracks a person's location along with other health metrics.
He said the location information can be helpful in diagnosing changes in behavior.
“Typically, people wake up in the morning and maybe they go to the bathroom first and then they go downstairs and get some breakfast,” Sobol said Friday. “We can see over time when there might be a change in that behavior.
“Maybe they go to get breakfast instead of going to the bathroom first and that could be indicative of an early change in their health.”
He added that CareBand data is being used in several studies by the National Institutes of Health.
