CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Some West Side activists are raising concerns about a swastika on a flag flying over a building in West Humboldt Park.
Scaffolding was erected on the roof of the building at Kedvale and Chicago Avenues, and there’s a collection of flags, including an upside down American Flag and a flag with a swastika.
Members of the West Humboldt Park Community Coalition, voiced their concerns during an unrelated news conference.
Farrah Walker, with the coalition.
“People are outraged. People are shocked, and people are scared. He’s blaring music and speaking out hateful messages over his loudspeaker. He’s also made threats against the President,” coalition member Farrah Walker said.
She said the flag has been up and down since it was reported to police several weeks ago.
“If this was Lincoln Park or River West,” she said, “that sign would’ve been taken down the day we reported it.”
She said the man behind this is squatting in the building. She believes he has guns and said she’s concerned something bad is going to happen.
WBBM has reached out to police about this and have yet to hear back.
