CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - An attempted carjacking on the West Side Thursday afternoon led to an exchange of gunfire that hit a school bus.

It happened just before 2 p.m. at Taylor and Western when an armed man attempted a carjacking. The owner of the car was armed himself.

There was an exchange of gunfire. Neither of the men was hit. But, a bullet went through the window of a school bus. There were no kids on the bus.

The would-be carjacker ran away. Police said the man whose car he was trying to steal was legally carrying the gun.
