(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The 2023 season at Six Flags Great America kicked off Saturday, and this year, officials with the amusement park said guests will be able to enjoy some old staples once again.

Although there won't be any new rides at the park, Six Flags spokesperson Rachel Kendziora said one of the big changes will be on the park’s menu.

"We're going to be bringing back Dole soft serve but introducing so many new favors that will be rotated monthly,” she said. “We're also introducing your choice of steak, chicken, or vegetarian loaded nachos. We're bringing chicken and waffles to the park, and on the sweet side, we're bringing bubble tea to the park."

Kendziora said  the focus this year was "elevating" the visitor experience. A big part of this, she said, is bringing back old events like Neon Nights, the park's nightly parade.

"This actually marks the return of nightly summer parades after six years,” she said. Neon Nights is the ultimate celebration of summer. It's gonna have awesome music, awesome entertainment, [and] bright lights."

Some other new experiences will include a pride celebration in June, as well as a Flavors of the World event, in which visitors can try food items from around the world.

Kendziora said the park itself is getting some upgrades.

"Guests will notice increased seating and shade around the park,” she said. “We have new park benches coming in, [and] guests can also see refreshed landscaping and lots of renovations around the park.”

Six Flags will be open primarily on weekends only until May 23, when daily admission will begin and will run through the summer.
