The Indivisible Chicago Northwest chapter hosted a 'Pack and Protect Party' at Foxtrot Market in the city's Wicker Park neighborhood to assemble whistle kits to be used to alert residents when immigration agents are nearby.
Shelly is one of several dozen volunteers helping to pack a whistle, 'Know Your Rights' printout and instructions on how to use the whistle into a plastic bag, "I came here because I'm worried about my family members some of whom are not from the U.S. and my wonderful neighbors and strangers I don't know, I'm just worried sick."
Tim Carroll is from Barrington says he's planning a similarly event in the suburbs, "Today there was about forty volunteers showing up to make packets. We went through everything that we had in about 45 minutes, we were expecting it to take an hour and a half. It's a bunch of people together interested in protecting their neighbors."
The organization says the kits will be donated to organizers of school watch patrols across the Northwest Side.
