
Before the big leaguers play under the lights at Rate Field this evening, some young baseball players were treated to a once in a lifetime experience on Chicago’s South Side.
“This is our favorite event of the year.”
Executive Director of White Sox Charities Christine O’Reilly helping to introduce 30 young athletes with the Miracle League of Joliet for their third annual exhibition game in the right field corner of the ballpark.
“We just love supporting them because they want to be big leaguers. Today is their opportunity to shine and do that.”
Pete Farro founded the league, which gives kids ages 5 to 18 with disabilities, the chance to play ball…but rarely on a stage like this
“You’re going to see some smiles, you’re going to see a little bit of nervousness, which is to be expected. They just appreciate it so much and they’ll talk about it for the next two years.”
As a relief pitcher for the Sox, Cam Booser is used to being on the mound…but played the role of catcher, coach…and cheerleader.
“Our game is for everybody. It’s really fun to come out here. I try not to get emotional, but it’s really special.”
