CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The latest signing by the Chicago White Sox will be a local teenager — one who is in the fight of his life.
Brady Nelson is a 14-year-old Norwood Park baseball player. On Monday, he will sign an honorary, one-day contract with the White Sox as part of a daylong ballpark experience with his family and friends.
Brady is battling an aggressive form of brain cancer.
He was diagnosed in December 2020, and he's scheduled for neurosurgery shortly after his day with the Sox.
Brady will hang out with players and coaches, take batting practice, and then run the bases in front of both teams before the Sox take on the Texas Rangers.
The suburban teen, who plays second base, is a lifelong White Sox fan. Team officials said Brady often wears his baseball uniform as he completes radiation treatments and chemotherapy, so that he won’t miss time getting to practice after his treatment sessions.
