COOK COUNTY, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Illinois Gaming Board has given preliminary approval to the operators of new casinos in the north and south suburbs.
Gaming Board Administrator Marcus Fruchter announced the decision during a virtual meeting saying the winning bidder and the final remaining applicant for the Waukegan casino license is Full House Resorts, inc. doing business as American Place.
The winning bid to become the final applicant for the owners license to be awarded in South Suburban Cook County is Wind Creek, Illinois LLC.
The Waukegan casino is the subject of a lawsuit by the Potawatomi applicants alleging the process was rigged.
The Potawatomi filed for a temporary restraining order to prevent the Gaming Board from moving ahead with its selection until the lawsuit was resolved. However, Cook County Judge Cecilia Horan turned down the request Tuesday, saying the tribe didn’t have legal standing to hold up the selection, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
“The casino is not going to open tomorrow. There are still many, many steps before anyone opens a casino in Waukegan,” Horan said during a virtual hearing.
The competition for the South Suburban casino was between two Native American gambling companies. The winner Wind Creek is based in Alabama.
