CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A woman living at a home on the South Side was arrested after multiple complaints of animal neglect.
Police say just before noon on Tuesday, Chicago Animal Care and Control rescued 26 cats from a home near Hermitage and 77th Street and at least three more cats were rescued the next day.
It happened after police received calls of animal neglect involving 37- year- old Ashley Burrell, owner of Nikkie's Ferals.
Cat rescuer Janice Cohl told CBS 2 that she had worked with Burrell and even donated hundreds of dollars to her cause, but was skeptical that the money was going towards animal care.
"No rescuers, nobody in rescue, animal control, has been able to get in the house to access and see these animals."
Cohl said she filed countless complaints against Burrell, who was arrested Tuesday and charged with a misdemeanor count of violating her animal owner duties.
"She should be confined to hell like those animals were in her house."
