(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Police in Waukegan say a woman is dead after the stolen car she was driving collided with a police patrol vehicle early this morning.
The crash occurred about 5 a.m. on Grand Avenue. Police said a woman driving a 2012 Silver Chevy Cobalt crossed the center line and hit a police vehicle on the rear driver's side.
The Cobalt kept going and hit a building.
Authorities said the woman, who had not been wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead on the scene.
The officer was apparently not hurt.
Waukegan Police say the Cobalt had been reported stolen from a neighborhood about a mile away on Tuesday morning.
Authorities said they'll identify the woman after her family is notified.
