(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A 44-year-old Cedar Lake woman was killed in her home when a large tree came down during Monday night's storms.
The woman, identified as Laura Nagel, was killed in her bedroom.
Police and firefighters responded to the home on 141st Lane at about 10 p.m.
The initial report said someone was hurt when a large tree was blown over and damaged a home. They found her dead in the master bedroom.
Police said the structure was compromised. It wasn't immediately safe, so it took several hours to get her body out.
There were two others in the home at the time. They were not injured.
Weather officials on Tuesday night confirmed that at least 6 tornadoes touched down in the Chicago area. This includes three EF-1 tornadoes.
