(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — People don’t normally get excited about finding litter, but the discovery of a discarded water bottle in Naperville has the city talking.

The stoneware bottle found Monday in downtown Naperville was trash that has been sitting underground for as long as 100 years.

“And it probably was left by a worker back when they were putting that storm sewer in,” says Bill Novack, Naperville’s director of transportation, engineering and development.

He said crews found the liter-sized bottle when they were removing and replacing the storm sewer.

“It’s really neat to think about and it’s been underneath there all those years and it’s never collapsed or broken or anything. It speaks about the strength of that clay.”

The bottle bears the stamp of a German company.

Danielle Tufano, executive director of the Downtown Naperville Alliance, said the city and the Naper Settlement museum will try to find out more about the bottle.
