CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Wrigleyville bars are balancing welcoming back Cubs fans while COVID-19 cases are rising around the ballpark.

Many bars along Clark street that used to pack customers inside during pre-pandemic days have capacity limits now, as does Wrigley Field.

The owner of Merkle's Bar & Grill told CBS 2 he's praying people get vaccinated so more fans can come out.

The city has halted further easing of those restrictions because as public health director, Dr. Allison Arwady points out, numbers are rising in Wrigleyville,

"Where we saw the most newly-diagnosed cases of COVID were right here in 60614 and 60657. People are gathering with friends with family. Sometimes that's in bars and restaurants sometimes that's in you know, other settings," Arwady said.

Some bars that have struggled over the last year and now find themselves turning away regulars due to those capacity limits.
