A ring of thieves that was doing big business selling pilfered makeup online has been shut down.

Michelle Mack, 53, is alleged to be the “ringleader” of a group of beauty product bandits who swiped $8 million worth of goods from Sephora and Ulta locations.

Authorities say Mack recruited dozens of women to shoplift the items and hand them over to her. Mack would then sell the stolen goods at a deep discount on Amazon.

According to police, Mack had recruited women in at least a dozen different states for her operation.

“This is a top priority for me, primarily because of the safety and security risk it brings to our team," Ulta Beauty CEO Dave Kimbell told CNBC of Mack’s arrest. “The network she built across the country was impacting multiple stores and so by eliminating that, it's a step. But unfortunately, I know there are others out there that are just like that."

Michelle Mack and her husband Kenneth were arrested on December 6, 2023. Both have pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy, grand theft and receipt of stolen property.
