A group of employees at a Kentucky Dairy Queen was rushed to the emergency room after a manager at their restaurant allegedly forced them to eat ice cream mixed with cleaning solution.
According to a parent of one of the young employees, who spoke with WKYT about the incident, the manager at the location had called a mandatory staff meeting on Friday night when the incident allegedly went down.
At the meeting, the manager reportedly forced staffers to eat ice cream that had been chemically contaminated “whether or not they liked” it, the parent said.
Angel Patton, whose 17-year-old daughter was one of the workers present, shared with WKYT that she was “livid” when she heard what happened.
“They were told by the manager that whether or not they liked chocolate ice cream, they were going to eat it today,” Patton claimed.
Patton said that after the meeting, some of those present were taken to a hospital, as those who ate the ice cream shared they “had a burning sensation when they swallowed.”
The owner of the franchise, Steve Caudill, has commented on the situation, saying that they are taking it seriously.
“The safety of our fans and crew members is our top priority. When we received complaints, we immediately began an investigation, which is ongoing. The manager involved is no longer employed at our restaurant,” Caudill said. “Know that we contacted local law enforcement to assist and we are fully cooperating with their investigation.”
The incident has also been reported to the Wolfe County Sheriff’s Office, which is investigating.
Deputy Elijah Banks shared with WKYT that they have had “multiple people coming in to give statements.”
No charges had been filed as of Wednesday, but the case remains active.
