One of the top candidates in the Republican primary for Oregon governor admitted that he and his wife explored the swinging lifestyle before deciding that it wasn't for them.

Sandy, Oregon Mayor Stan Pulliam, 40, told told the Williamett Week that he and his wife MacKensey "explored relationships, mutual relationships with other couples, for a brief period of time before ultimately deciding that it wasn’t for us."

Pulliam admitted to this after a 2016 screenshot from the Facebook group titled “Swinger Facebook Group PDX" made its way around Oregon political circles.

"Hi Everyone!," the message said. "MacKensey and I are excited to be added to your little community. Some of you we have already had the pleasure to meet and we look forward to getting to know the rest of you!"

The group has 536 members, according to Willamette Week.

Pulliam and his wife of 12 years agreed to a Zoom interview with the newspaper, and repeatedly declined to say when their relationships started or ended. He did add that 2016 was an accurate time, and that they ended participating before he began running for governor.

"I think people can relate from all different parts of the state who have been involved in marriages," Pulliam said. "There are different stages of marriage and different ebbs and flows. This is something that was for a brief period in our past and is in the past."

The 40-year-old candidate made his sexuality clear in the interview, denying any allegations that he is bisexual.

"I’m a heterosexual male," Pulliam said. "And I’ve only personally engaged in heterosexual activity."

Pulliam has been a strong supporter of former President Donald Trump, and even continues to question the results of the 2020 election.

"I am the ONLY candidate who has the courage to say what needs to be said about the integrity of our elections," Pulliam tweeted on Feb. 1. "If you want an ACTUAL conservative as your next governor then we need your help!"

Pulliam has placed an emphasis on small-town values and has said he's the only conservative candidate throughout his campaign materials and public appearances.

"When I look around at Sandy, I can see the Oregon of my childhood," Pulliam said in a campaign video. "It’s time to restore our pioneer glory."

He went on to add that his sexual activity is consistent with his campaign values.

"In Oregon, we really cherish values of individuality and liberty," Pulliam said.

"The decisions that we made were for MacKensey and I to make in the privacy of our own homes. We’re certainly not asking anybody to participate or practice or do any of the things that we have decided to do in the past. But we’re also certainly not ashamed of decisions that we’ve made in the past either, as they’ve made us stronger," Pulliam said.
