During a demonstration on how to pet an alligator, an animal trainer in Utah was quickly put in danger when the alligator attacked her. However, thanks to the brave actions of a bystander who jumped on the creature's back, the two were able to subdue the animal.

The trainer, Lindsay Bull, was feeding the alligator, which was measured at 8 ½ feet, at Scales and Tails in Salt Lake City, she told KSL.

Bull shared that she has worked at the educational and entertainment company for nearly four years before the attack on Saturday.

The reptile involved in the attack, Darth Gator, had begun acting aggressively when Bull went into its enclosure to feed it. Bull grabbed under his lower jaw and pushed him back, something she says she has done "lots of times before," KSL reported.

The gator then snatched her hand and "really bit down," she said to KSL. The video shows just how quickly it happened, and Bull admitted that she "can't really tell you what happened."

The video shot on a cellphone from one of the visitors present shows Bull entering the enclosure. Bull then made a move, which she said to KSL was designed to keep Darth Gator from biting a chunk of her arm off.

The reptile bit down on her hand, and she briefly wrestled with the animal wrapping her legs around it.

Then a man attending the event, Donnie Wiseman, can be heard asking what he should do to help her. Wiseman spoke with Bull earlier and said that he had worked with an 18-foot rock python, she said.

Because of this, she told him, "If you can get on his back, go on his back," while fighting with Darth Gator.

Then with no hesitation, Wiseman can be seen jumping on the beast's back, helping subdue the animal. Bull managed to remove her hand from Darth Gator's mouth almost a minute later, with Wiseman still on its back.

Someone else present then pulled Bull from the enclosure, followed by Wiseman almost a minute later.

Bull said that Wiseman was a hero and that she doesn't want people to think the animal was a "mindless killing machine," KSL reported.

"What happened was an accident," Bull said to KSL. "I'm so much more to blame than Darth Gator."

Bull is currently recovering from injuries suffered in the incident.
