If you’ve been waiting to drop to a knee and ask that special person in your life to marry you, 2024 might be the year to do it, as proposals are expected to skyrocket this year.

The expected jump in proposals is being predicted by Signet Jewelers, the largest jewelry company in the United States.

The jewelry company shared last year that engagement ring sales fell during the pandemic as relationships faltered or never started, with people avoiding socializing outside their circles.

The trend created what’s being called an “engagement gap” since couples usually take a little over three years of dating to get engaged, Signet shared.

Now, four years after the COVID-19 virus hammered the world, proposals are expected to rebound starting in early 2024.

“Covid created a temporary disruption in dating. We had predicted that we would see a lull in engagements caused several years ago by Covid,” Signet CEO Virginia Drosos said during a company presentation at the Goldman Sachs Global Retailing Conference last fall.

Drosos said at the time that nearly 2.8 million couples get engaged every year in the US, but in 2022, that number was 2.5 million, and in 2023, around 2.2 million.

But 2024 shows promise, as her company expects proposals to reach 2.4 to 2.5 million.
