A newly released poll finds 45% of Americans think that the United States is sending too much funding to Ukraine amid its war with Russia.
The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs poll comes as Congress debates sending more aid to Ukraine, which has been fighting its war against Russia for nearly two years.
Amongst Republicans, 59% think the government is spending too much on aid, down from 69% who said the same in October.
For Democrats, support in aiding Ukraine appears much stronger, with 57% supporting sending weapons to Ukraine, compared to 42% of Republicans and 48% overall.
The poll also found that 38% of Americans think the current spending is “about the right amount.”
Additionally, about 2 in 5 U.S. adults support sending government funds directly to Ukraine, according to the poll. By party, that’s 54% of Democrats and 24% of Republicans.
The poll was conducted Nov. 2-6 and included responses from 1,239 adults. There is a margin of error of plus or minus 3.9 percentage points.
