Local officials announced on Wednesday that a tourist from Texas staying at a Mexican resort has died after he was electrocuted while inside a Jacuzzi.

A statement released from the attorney general’s office for the state of Sonora shared that the 43-year-old man was in the Jacuzzi alongside another person when the shock happened.

The El Paso, Texas, man was taken to the US alongside the other person inside the Jacuzzi for medical treatment. The other person, a female, is still in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, KTSM reported.

The AG’s office shared that the incident was reported on Tuesday at around 8:30 p.m. in the pool area of a private condominium complex in the Puerto Peñasco resort.

KTSM reported that the shock that claimed the man’s life and left the other victim in critical condition was caused by faulty wiring.

Experts are currently working to determine the reason for the “electrical failure,” according to the AG’s office. It will provide more details at a later date.
