Across the pond, police shared that a man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following two similar attacks, where elderly men were randomly set on fire.

On Monday evening, U.K police shared that 70-year-old Mohammed Rayaz was sprayed with a substance and set ablaze while he was leaving a mosque in the city of Birmingham.

Police were on high alert after the attack because, similarly, on Feb. 27, an 82-year-old man suffered an almost identical attack in London. That man was leaving the West London Islamic Center before he stopped to talk to a man that then doused him in a liquid and set him on fire.

Both men suffered severe injuries from the attacks, and the 70-year-old man remains hospitalized in critical care with severe burns on his face, hands, and all over his body, according to police.

A statement from the West Midlands Police Department shared that Mohammed Abbkr, 28, is believed to be behind the attacks, and after completing an investigation, he was arrested on Wednesday afternoon.

Officers made their arrest on Tuesday outside the same mosque in Birmingham while they were investigating the attack.

The man is still in custody, and police shared that they could not speculate on potential motives for the attack.
