One of the many “No Kings” rallies that took place today, protesting the Trump Administration, was in Michigan City, Indiana.

Protestors, many carrying signs reading “No Kings,” lined both sides of US 12 on the North End of town.

They chanted “No Kings.”

Nicki Stein attended the rally with her family.

We asked, “What compelled you to be here today?”

“Everything,” she said, “just the need to be here, the awful policies of our  government, and a President who, frankly, is a liar.”

Stein said she fears the direction of the country.

“In all things, she said. “Our rights, our free speech, education, the sense that there are facts and there are not facts, across the board.”

She looked out of over the large crowd of more than a thousand people, the horns of passing cars honking, and said “I see people who care, I hear people who care, the horns, and I see hope and I don’t have a lot of hope otherwise.”

A local couple, Lori and Matt Doughty, were among those in the crowd.

Lori said, fascism compelled her to be there.

“This is not the place for fascism,” she said, “this is a place for freedom. This is a place for people to be welcome and feel safe and not be worried about being ripped off the streets and losing their rights left and right.  It’s not right, it’s not right, it’s not what our founding fathers set forth in the constitution.”

Matt Doughty said, “It’s disappointing to have a President and a congress, for that matter, that doesn’t seem to be listening to the people.
That’s a big reason I’m here and it’s awesome to see this.”

He said “it makes me joyful and gives me hope.”

A high school student in the crowd said she learned about justice from her parents and her grandparents and what she’s seeing happening to the country is “not justice.”
