Area resident Sammy Martinez heard the shots that killed a man on Monday night.

“It happened right in front of our home. I was watching a Disney movie with my son,” Martinez said.

Martinez told CBS 2 that he takes his son to daycare on the block and a bullet went through the front window there.

“It could happen to anybody,” he said.

Shootings in the area — more than 40 so far this year — are  more than double the number from the same period last year.
