Some members of the Texas National Guard who were recently sent to Illinois have been sent home because of their appearance.
This, after US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's criticism of "fat troops."
Hegseth wrote on social media, “standards are back” after the publication Task & Purpose reported that some troops were sent home.
Some commented on social media when photos and video showing some Texas National Guard members arriving in Elwood, near Joliet.
They suggested the troops didn’t meet the standards Hegseth spoke of during a meeting with military leaders.
“Its tiring to look out at combat formations or really any formations,” he said, “and see fat troops. Likewise, its completely unacceptable to see fat generals and admirals in the halls of the Pentagon.”
He added, “it’s a bad look.”
A statement from the Texas National Guard says a “small group” out of the 200 soldiers sent to Illinois don’t meet standards.
