CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Officers Rayvon Morgan and Brendan Lyons had only been Chicago Police Officers for two months when they came upon a dire situation in the field.
"I think we were literally beginning our third week in the field," recalls Morgan.
On June 2 at 9 p.m., Morgan, Lyons and their Field Training Officer Sergio Corona responded to call of a child injured and bleeding.
"You could see the boy lost color. There was quite a bit of blood," recalls Corona.
The boy had been cut on a fence. Officer Lyons quickly applied a tourniquet while Morgan tried to keep the boy and his family calm.
"The boy asked the officers, am I going to die?" Cline said.
Both officers admitted they were thrown into a real world situation fairly quickly, but also said they learned exactly what to do in an emergency.
"I was glad to hear he was going to be okay and be of service to him and his family and the community. I think it's a big reason people want to be a police officer to help the community and the families who need us," he said.
Officers Morgan, Lyons and and their trainer Sergio Corona were honored as June Officers of the Month.
