CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A northwestern suburbs has decided to showcase residents that do good for others and it’s taking nominations now. Rolling Meadows Police Chief John Nowacki said the Good Samaritan Award is named for the Police Department and Iraqi War veteran and Rolling Meadows resident Bryan Anderson, who Nowacki calls "a true American hero."

Anderson enlisted in the Army months before Sept. 11. He lost two legs and a hand in an IED explosion."Just seems like nowadays, a lot of people focus on the negative things, but there’s definitely more positive and good things, than there are negative. And, we definitely want to make people aware of that and promote those good deeds and good Samaritan acts," he said.
