LAKE FOREST, Ill. (670 The Score) -- The Bears plan to give veteran quarterback Andy Dalton the primary workload in their second preseason game this Saturday, after which rookie Justin Fields is expected to take over.

Dalton played two series and took just six snaps in Chicago's preseason opener last Saturday, with the offense going three-and-out each time. Fields then came in and went 14-of-20 for 142 yards with a passing and a rushing touchdown in a little more than two quarters of action.

Set as the starter to open the regular season, Dalton is expected to play a quarter-and-a-half against the Bills at Soldier Field on Saturday, Bears coach Matt Nagy said. The team plans for Fields to play despite him nursing a groin issue in practice Wednesday.

Fields returned to practice Thursday at Halas Hall, though the Bears were conducting lighter work.

The Bears will face former Chicago quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, the No. 2 overall pick in 2017 who's now the Bills' backup. Buffalo intends to rest Pro Bowl quarterback Josh Allen on Saturday and named Trubisky the starter for the game.

The Bears and Bills kick off at noon Saturday from Soldier Field.
